Are You Getting Sucked Back Out To Sea?

What is stopping you from really getting what you want from your business? This is a question I ask small business computer consulting company owners on a regular basis. Many times business owners are like waves crashing onto a beach. They approach a project much like a wave does, starting out many miles away from the coast or, in this case, project or idea.

A great idea gets started much like a wave does out in the ocean and it starts to gain momentum as it gets closer to the coast as well as rising and showing form. Many business owners follow this same approach to their projects or business needs in general. They start off with a great idea, build its momentum and start to create a swell rising in height.

What happens next is that it crashes onto the beach. Business owners can attract others to ride this wave, business surfers is a good way to look at it. These are members of your team, business coaches, outside consultants or anyone that can help you in this way. However, when the wave starts to lose momentum the surfers fall off, and leave the business owner still heading toward the beach.

When a wave finally makes it to the beach, it immediately starts to retreat back to the sea, sometimes sucking other things with it. The undertow of your business idea or project crash can kill any business. Undertow in the ocean has been known to pull debris and even people out to sea, drowning them. Is this happening in your business? Is your undertow drowning your business or business ideas?

How can you prevent your business from getting sucked back out to sea? Determination and persistence are a great starting point. Nothing will kill a business faster than the business owner losing his or her determination to see the task to the end and the persistence to get what they need in under to successfully make it on shore and stay there.

Assembling the right team is critically important; having the right surfers riding your waves for the longest time possible is a major key to ensuring that your business goals and projects reach completion. This means that you have to create the biggest wave possible to allow them to ride for a long time. All surfers eventually fall off the wave, this is a fact but you want them on there for the full length of the run.

When you make it onto the shore you want to ensure that you stay there too and do not get sucked out by the undertow. This means you need to smash through your goals and objectives in business so that you can avoid getting sucked back. The more you can make it past the finish line the more successful you will be in business. Many small business computer consultants never make it to the objective; they quit when the end is in sight and get sucked back to the sea.

You may be lucky enough to start a new wave; however that may take too long to happen. When you finally have the next opportunity, the beach or shoreline will more than likely change and new surfers are ready to ride your waves. Make your ride count today so you can avoid being sucked out to sea.
